Reporting on
what’s important

Reporting on what’s important to our stakeholders and our business is the basis for this integrated annual report. It is structured around 13 material customer, business, environmental, social and governance topics that stakeholders and Watercare identified as most relevant. These are the prime issues that have a material impact on the long-term success of our business and our wider operating environment.

The rigour of our stakeholder engagement and materiality assessment process, explained on our stakeholder engagement and materiality page, aligns with the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) Framework and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. Of the 23 topics raised by stakeholders, 13 met the threshold of being high priority and thus material to the operation of the business.

Three were ranked highest by both internal and external stakeholders:

Safe, clean reliable drinking water
Health, safety and well-being of our people
Long-term financial stability

The next most highly ranked issues across the stakeholder groups were:

Responsible infrastructure stewardship
Effective wastewater management
Infrastructure planning for future growth

The following pages of this report explain what Watercare is focusing on to ensure these issues are driving our business strategies, investments and risk management.
